"There are two kinds of trivia: trivia for dumb people and trivia for smart people. Mother Egan's starts out the legendary Tuesday night rounds with super easy questions, making you feel like a genius. They ply you with beer and pub food (try the chips and curry), and just when you're feeling proud of yourself, ready to go back and get that second college degree, they yank the rug out from under your lazy, lounging brain and ask the absolute hardest questions imaginable, questions about ions and periodic charts and things God and Einstein and Alex Trebek wouldn't even know. Suddenly you're scrambling for answers, arguing with your teammates, and ready to choke the bar staff with their thick, jovial Irish accents. Now you're mad at facts: who cares about pi, you think, who needs to know what crops grow in the Fertile Crescent or what kind of metal the planes in World War I were fashioned from? By the end of a good night at Mother Egan's, you're tipsy, beaten down, ashamed that you ever thought you were intelligent at all, and ready to go back again next week, by which time you're certain you'll be smarter, or at least thirsty for Guinness again." - Austin American Statesman 11.06.2008
"At Mother Egan's, novice trivi-ites are given the chance to feel good about themselves during the earlier rounds - the vast majority of teams missed one question or less. Difficulty escalated in later rounds. The friendly atmosphere at Mother Egan's was capped off at the end of the evening as Quizmaster and bar manager Ward Luedecke thanked the attendees for their patronage at seven years worth of trivia nights at Mother Egan's and gave everyone in attendance a free cocktail glass." - The Daily Texan 07.17.2008
